Overview

This unique cruise takes us deep into the Moselle Valley as well as taking in the Boppard wine festival and ‘Lightning Night fireworks on the Middle Rhine’. With entertainment every night hosted by GN favourite Keith Slater, featuring guest UK singer Hayley-Ria Christian on three nights, and visits to Cochem, Trier, Bernkastel, and Zell on the Moselle, plus Boppard, Koblenz and St Goar on The Rhine this is a magical voyage that will stay in your memory for years to come. Our exclusively chartered four-star ship the MS Carmen provides 136 guests with a friendly crew, great food, super service, and spacious en-suite cabins.

In Boppard, the magnificent wine festival celebrates the grape harvest with wine grower tastings and entertainment. In the evening marvel at the ‘Lightning Night on the Middle Rhine’ fireworks display and flotilla of illuminated riverboats which can be enjoyed from the promenade or on-board the MS Carmen.

Multi-talented Keith Slater has been a professional musician since 1981 and sings hits from the 60s to present day. He regularly works with well known artistes Malcolm Stent, Don Maclean and award winning bands Inheritance and Vivo.

Hayley Ria Christian’s versatility as a vocalist is sensational as she performs the Soul, R&B and Motown hits that have inspired her career, including exceptional tributes to the ‘Empress of Soul’ Gladys Knight and one of the greatest female artists of all time, Whitney Houston.

        4-Star Magical Moselle, Rhine Wine & Lightning Night River Cruise

        Itinerary

        Day 1: UK to Cologne
        Depart London St Pancras in the morning on the Eurostar to Brussels, arriving in just over 2 hours. Continue by coach to Cologne and the MS Carmen. Alternatively travel to and from Cologne by air from regional UK airports – see flight information and options. Time to settle into your cabin before dinner. Evening sailing to Andernach for an overnight stop. Entertainment and free drinks in the lounge.

        Day 2: Andernach to Koblenz
        Early morning we sail to Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, arriving during breakfast. You will be free to explore on your own, we recommend taking the cable car over the Rhine to the imposing Ehrenbreitstein fortress, or join our optional walking tour of the town. At midday we set sail for Beilstein and enjoy an afternoon sailing along the scenic and peaceful Moselle arriving early evening. Entertainment and free drinks in the lounge. Night time departure for Trier.

        Day 3: Beilstein to Trier
        We spend the morning sailing, arriving at Trier after lunch. This afternoon is free to explore Trier or you may like to join the walking tour of this oldest town in Germany. Founded by the Romans and once home to Emperor Constantine, Trier was the capital of part of the Roman Empire covering modern day Spain, France, Britain and parts of Germany. Entertainment and free drinks in the lounge. Overnight in Trier.

        Day 4: Trier to Bernkastel
        We set sail before breakfast for Bernkastel arriving mid-morning. Known as the ‘heart of the Middle Moselle’, Bernkastel is a beautiful twin-town spread along both the east and west banks of the Moselle. You may like to join the optional walking tour through the Old Town. We set sail before dinner for Zell arriving late evening. Entertainment and free drinks in the lounge.

        Day 5: Zell to Cochem
        This morning we have free time in the quaint town of Zell, home of the well-known ‘Black Cat’ Wine. This pretty little town offers the chance to buy some local wine and a relaxing stroll. Late morning we set sail for Cochem arriving after lunch. There is time to explore on your own, or join our optional excursion of a guided town walking tour with an included wine tasting – try 5 wines of this unique region. Wine tasting only also available. Early evening we begin our sailing to Boppard with an overnight stop in Güis en route. Entertainment and free drinks in the lounge.

        Day 6: Boppard
        Early morning we sail through the middle Rhine to Boppard arriving Midday. The town’s treasures include romantic squares, small lanes and the Rhine Allee (Riverside Promenade), filled with trees and flowers. Enjoy one of the highlights of the year in Boppard, the Wine Festival in the market square, with various wine stands for wine-tasting, music and entertainment. Tonight is the highlight of the cruise as we enjoy the Lightning Night on the Middle Rhine when the night sky erupts into a million stars with a spectacular fireworks display. Overnight in Boppard. Entertainment and free drinks in the lounge.

        Day 7: St Goar – Cologne
        Early morning we sail from Boppard to St Goar arriving during breakfast. St. Goar, is situated in the Loreley Valley across the river from the legendary Loreley Rock on one of the most picturesque stretches of the Rhine. It also home to Rheinfels Castle the largest on the Middle Rhine. There is time to explore on your own, or join our optional guided tour of the castle and ruins. Early afternoon we begin our return sailing to Cologne passing countless castles, fortresses and sleepy hamlets starting in the narrowest and deepest part of the river, marked by the legendary Lorelei Rock. Arrive Cologne in the late evening. Entertainment and free drinks in the lounge. Overnight in Cologne.

        Day 8: Cologne to UK
        After Breakfast we disembark and transfer by coach to Brussels where we take the Eurostar to London St Pancras arriving during the afternoon. Or, transfer to Cologne airport for your flight back to the UK.

        GN Holidays & Voyages is chartering the elegant four-star sister ships, MS Carmen and Ms Verdi for some exclusive cruises in 2021/22. Both ships – identical in everything but name – were fully renovated to a high standard in 2016. They accommodate 136 guests in spacious and comfortable cabins, all freshly renovated with double and twin hotel style beds.
        The impressive Reception on Upper deck includes a hotel style lift which goes from the upper deck to the lower deck. At the front of the ship you will enjoy the magnificent lounge with bar, spacious dance floor and easy chairs. There is also a Sun deck with sun loungers, chairs and covered areas with wind protection so suitable for all weathers.
        Restaurant – The restaurant on the Upper Deck features large picture windows and is light and airy with elegant decor and furnishings engendering a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Diners can enjoy generous breakfasts, plus four course lunches and dinners.
        Leisure facilities – In the centre of the ship there is a stylish library and seating area. Under the large awning on the Sun Deck there are plenty of chairs and deck chairs for guests’ comfort.
        Decks & Cabins
        Cabins all have window, TV, safe, hair dryer, individually, controlled heating and cooling system, shower and WC. They have double/twin hotel style beds, except the singles which have a single bed and sofa. Cabins are situated over three decks with a choice of A-grade French Balcony, B&C grade 1/2 French Balcony, D-grade Fixed window or E-grade singles with small window.
        Please note: When docking ships can be moored side by side so views from the cabin may be obscured.
        UPPER DECK WITH FRENCH BALCONY – The upper deck is split-level with all A-grade *French Balcony cabins situated in the highest part of the ship. The restaurant, at the rear of the ship, is accessed directly from here down 3 small steps. The reception, bar and lounge at the front of the ship are also accessed directly from here down 8 steps or via elevator.
        *French Balconies look and act like a regular balcony, with the only exception being that there is a railing placed directly behind the glass, meaning you cannot step out onto a separate space. The glass is almost full cabin width and height like a sliding patio door.
        MIDDLE DECK ½ FRENCH BALCONY cabins situated between the restaurant and reception are accessed directly from here up 12 steps, or you can take the elevator from reception and enter via the upper deck. The reception, bar and lounge at the front of the ship are also accessed directly from here up 7 steps or via elevator.
        ** 1/2 French Balconies have a cabin width sliding window from waist height up with an external guard rail at chest height.
        MIDDLE DECK STANDARD D-grade cabins with fixed picture window (does not open) are at the front of the ship below the bar/lounge with access from the reception via 15 steps or elevator.
        LOWER DECK SINGLE – The lower deck has 10 E-grade single cabins (no supplement) situated mid-ships below the reception with access via 15 steps or elevator.
