Day 1: UK to Bled
Solkan Bridge, Bohinj Railway
Check in at your chosen airport for the flight to Ljubljana or Venice – flight duration around 2 hours. On arrival we transfer by coach to Bled where we check into our hotel. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Bled & Lake Bohinj
This morning we visit Bled island by traditional Pletna boat. Afterwards we travel to Lake Bohinj where it may be possible to take the cable car up to the summit of Mount Vogel (payable locally). In the afternoon we visit Bled castle to enjoy a wine tasting and take-in the sublime views of the lake and Triglav Mountains. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Klagenfurt and Lake Worthersee
This morning we travel the short distance to Austria where we visit the regional capital of Klagenfurt with its renaissance buildings and charming courtyards. From here we drive to Lake Worthersee, said to be Austria’s Monte Carlo due to its stunning surroundings, sought after properties and towns. Worthersee is the largest Alpine Lake in Europe with a length of 10 miles, and is famous for its crystal blue water - clean enough to drink. Late afternoon we return to Bled. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 4: Ljubljana
Today we visit Ljubljana, Slovenia‘s capital – a great little city full of charm, historic buildings, cafés, restaurants and shops, all overlooked by an ancient castle. Legend has it that Ljubljana was founded by the Greek mythological heros Jason and the Argonauts. Return to Bled mid-afternoon. Dinner in the hotel.
Day 5: Piran
This morning we drive to Izola on Slovenia’s Adriatic coast and board our boat for a short coastal cruise to lovely Piran. Here you’ll see architecture influenced by the Venetian Republic and the Austro-Hungarian empire. Explore narrow winding streets, squares and churches. Tartini Square is a gem named after famous violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini. The Church of St George, the patron saint of Piran, rises above the town and is worth a visit for the panoramic views alone. Enjoy free time to explore and obtain lunch before returning to Izola by boat and coach to Bled. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 6: Bohinj Railway & Julian Alps
This morning we board the Bohinj railway at Bled station for a wonderful 90 minute journey through the Julian Alps alongside the stunning blue waters of the Soca River Valley, to the Italian border town of Nova Gorica. Built by the Austro-Hungarain empire to link Vienna with the Adriatic, the project was likened to the building of the Suez Canal for its scale and effort. Rejoin the coach for an afternoon scenic drive through the mountains taking-in the town of Bovec, surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps, cross the border into Italy via a scenic mountain route through the popular resorts of Trbiz, Tarvisio. Arriving back in Slovenia we stop at Kranjska Gora a popular ski and summer resort. Return to Bled. Dinner at the hotel
Day 7: Bled
Today is at leisure in Bled. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 8: Bled to UK
This morning we join the coach and travel to Ljublijana or Venice to check in for our return flight to the UK.
